Hope everyone is OK at Susitna River Lodge. We stayed there several days last September (2011) and the photo I took from our room is still my main computer "wallpaper" because it was such a beautiful place.
When you have a chance, please post something here to let us know how the flooding has affected staff and the lodge.

We had a WONDERFUL TIME! What a beautiful place. I must come back and enjoy the winter. Mark Bergin-Sperry
Our stay at Susitna River Lodge during this year's Iditarod is still one of my fondest memories, not only the beautiful lodge rooms with all the amenities, but it was great fun just talking with our friends around the campfire down on the river. Whenever friends ask about where to stay in Talkeetna there's only one answer: Susitna River Lodge!
Stayed a week in April of 2011 and a Week in June in 2012. We will be back next year in the fall to get a different look at the place.
Without a doubt this is the best extended stay location. People are great with plenty of things to do or do nothing but enjoy some quite time.

We stayed 2 nights June 11 & 12, 2012. The hospitality was fantastic. We were made to feel like part of the family. The cabin was very clean and very well stocked with everything you could possibly want or need. Wish we would have had more time to spend here, but hopefully we can come back again some day soon!!!!!!

Great stay. I travel to the area for business and this is hands down the best place to stay in town.

Thanks again for an awesome tour on your snowmobiles on 2/3. The rest of the guys from PA and myself are still talking about it, and are ready to come back to AK.
Happy New Year!...
My first view of the sunrise (10 a.m.) was an absolute winter wonderland. The temp today is a balmy -23°F. Denali is in clear view and calling for photographers. Suppose we should gear up and leave the comfortably warm coziness of the lodge for a bit. ☺ Thank you for a wonderful place to start the new year!

We visited the Susitna River Lodge on our visit up to Talkeetna on November 21, 10. We were on a family trip with my whole family. Husband Jason, daughter Emma who is 8 years old, mother Susan and my brother Jeff. Some of us had experience snow machining and some of us did not. Mr. Hunter went over everything we needed to know and made an extra point to make sure everyone was comfortable and safe. He went out of his way to make sure my daughter Emma was situated, warm and okay with everything on the ride. Half way thru the run we all stopped at the top of the mountain for some absolutely AMAZING views and hot chocolate. He entertained us answering questions we had and sharing his love of Alaska, he even took a few pictures for our family scrapbook for us. At another stop along the way my daughter Emma was getting a little chilly. He did not hesitate to pull off her shoes and start to rub her feet warm as if she was his own. He was even so prepared as to bring those little heated packets and put them in her shoes to make sure her feet stayed warm and cozy.
Once we returned to the cabin, Mrs. Darlene saw that Emma was cold and immediately grabbed a heated corn sac, a blanket and some hot coco and set her by the fire and warmed her feet just as Mr. Howard did. It was the sweetest thing! Even Emma had said, “They are the nicest people ever!”
I truly appreciate the hospitality and warm, caring, comfortable experience the Hunters provided and will absolutely return to not only snow machine with them again, but to stay in their rented cabins. They showed us around and completely made us feel at home and I look forward to making it up there to see them again. AMAZING views~ wonderful company~ and a cozy atmosphere! Thank you so much to the Hunters for making it one of the best parts of our vacation!!!

We didn't see a moose or bear yet, but we did see a TIGER! What a sweet little dog.
We were absolutely delighted with the lawn, landscape and wonderful accommodations. The cabin was very comfortable.
Also, your caretaker directed us to a nice fishing location where we caught a 24 inch rainbow trout and brought it back for dinner. We've had a great stay here.
