Regarding the climate, in the summer Talkeetna can get a bit toasty. Have some: shorts, sandals and sunblock handy. Pack rain gear for a damp day, and certainly bring some warm clothes just in case the temperature drops or you decide to go flightseeing. Jeans and fleece are always good to have.

For winter travel, boots rated to -20 or colder, down coats with hoods, and well insulated gloves will work wonders. Dressing in layers will help you regulate your body heat.

Gas stations, ATMs and groceries are all nearby. Just be sure to show up with a plan to relax and enjoy your stay. One more thing, don't forget your fishing license!

Hope everyone is OK at Susitna River Lodge. We stayed there several days last September (2011) and the photo I took from our room is still my main computer "wallpaper" because it was such a beautiful place.

When you have a chance, please post something here to let us know how the flooding has affected staff and the lodge.

Mike from South Carolina coast
